Liverpool Set to Sign Florian Wirtz in Record Deal

Liverpool

Liverpool have reportedly reached an agreement to sign Bayer Leverkusen star Florian Wirtz for a British record transfer fee of £116 million, as per multiple trusted sources in England.

According to Paul Joyce of The Times, the deal includes an initial payment of £100 million, with the total possibly rising to £116 million through bonuses and add-ons. Meanwhile, The Athletic reports that Wirtz will sign a five-year contract with the club.

The German midfielder is expected to become Liverpool’s second signing of the summer, following the arrival of his Leverkusen teammate Jeremie Frimpong earlier in the transfer window.

Wirtz is expected to complete his medical soon.

Florian Wirtz has been one of the standout players in the Bundesliga over the past two seasons, becoming an important member of the Bayer Leverkusen squad under their former coach, Xabi Alonso.

At just 22 years old, Wirtz played a major role in helping Leverkusen go unbeaten and win the Bundesliga title in the 2023/24 season. He leaves the club with an impressive record of 57 goals and 65 assists across all competitions. His outstanding performances also earned him the Bundesliga Player of the Season award.

Since Liverpool won’t be competing in the 2025 Club World Cup, Wirtz could make his debut in the Community Shield match against Crystal Palace.
