LAS VEGAS (AP) — Myles Turner wants to keep competing for NBA championships, which is why he’s ready for a new challenge—and a fresh start.
The Milwaukee Bucks officially welcomed Turner on Friday, making him one of the biggest names to change teams this offseason. Turner had spent all 10 years of his NBA career with the Indiana Pacers, who reached the NBA Finals last season but fell short in Game 7 against the Oklahoma City Thunder.
Speaking at his introduction, Turner challenged the popular saying, “The grass isn’t greener on the other side.”
“I don’t agree with that,” Turner said. “I believe the grass will be greener wherever I go.”
And in Milwaukee, the grass might literally be greener—since green is the Bucks’ main team color.
“My girlfriend even told me I look good in green,” Turner joked.
Turner brings youth and flexibility to the Bucks lineup. Last season’s starting center, Brook Lopez, is 37 years old. Turner, 29, is still in his athletic prime despite already playing a decade in the league.
Bucks head coach Doc Rivers is excited about the new addition. Turner joins Milwaukee thanks to a financial move the team made—waiving and stretching Damian Lillard’s $111 million contract over the next two seasons. This helped clear space to sign Turner.
Coach Doc Rivers said if you had to imagine the perfect player to pair with Giannis before free agency began, it would be Myles Turner. Sitting next to Turner during the press conference, Rivers explained how tough it is to win in the NBA. “People don’t realize how difficult winning really is,” he said. “Myles and I were talking about that. You need everything to go right — health, teamwork, chemistry, and even timing on shots. It’s never easy.”
The Indiana Pacers learned that the hard way.
In Game 7 of the Finals, Pacers star Tyrese Haliburton hit three quick three-pointers and had tied the score at 16. But just seven minutes into the game, he ruptured his Achilles tendon. The injury has ruled him out for the entire 2025–26 season. That serious blow likely means the Pacers won’t be strong title contenders next season — and may have influenced Turner’s decision to leave.
Turner didn’t give many details about his reasons for moving on.
“There were some differences between me and the team,” he said. “Out of respect for them and this team, I won’t go too deep into it. But I felt this was the right move for my career.”
Turner, who played 10 seasons with the Pacers, averaged 14.1 points and 6.8 rebounds per game.
Bucks general manager Jon Horst expressed excitement about adding Turner to the team. “We already have the best player in the world in Giannis, the best coach, and a system designed to bring out Giannis’ full potential,” he said. “Now, with Myles Turner as his perfect teammate, we can push even further. This move — and future ones — are all about winning.”
