Shubman Gill has been appointed the captain of the Indian team for the five-match Test series against England. After the retirement of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, the command of the team is in young hands. The first Test match between England and India will be played from June 20. Earlier, former Indian cricketer Robin Uthappa has praised the selectors for making Gill the Test captain.
He said that the 25-year-old young captain can captain India for the next decade and can also perform well in England. Speaking during Game Plan on Star Sports, Uthappa said that it is right to appoint Shubman Gill as the captain.

The former right-handed batsman said, ‘You have to congratulate the selection committee because they have worked with foresight. Shubman is only 24 or 25 years old right now. If he performs well, you can see him captaining the Indian Test team for the next 10 years or the next decade.’
Uthappa further said, ‘We have seen a lot of change in his captaincy in IPL from last year to this year, the way he led Gujarat Titans, the intensity with which he worked, the decisions he took on the field and the way he stood up for his teammates in any incident that happened with the umpires or on the field.’
He concluded by saying, ‘He is going to be a good leader. He is a smart cricketer. He has a good mind for the game. He understands his game deeply. He is very talented and he is a good person. He has all the necessary qualities to be a good leader.’
