Texas Tech has given men’s basketball coach Grant McCasland, 48, a contract extension worth $31.5 million, lasting through the 2030–31 season, the school told the Lubbock Avalanche-Journal.

McCasland will earn $5 million next season, and his salary will increase by $100,000 each year, reaching $5.5 million in the final year of the deal.

Coach Grant McCasland has been with Texas Tech for two years and already made a strong impact. With a record of 51 wins and 20 losses, he holds the best start for any coach in the school’s history.

Last season, Texas Tech had a solid run, finishing with 28 wins and 9 losses. They reached the Elite Eight at the 2025 NCAA Tournament, marking just the third time the program has gone that far. Their journey ended with a loss to the Florida Gators, who later won the championship.

Looking ahead, the team has kept star player JT Toppin, who was named Big 12 Player of the Year. They also brought in several new players through the transfer portal, including Lejuan Watts, who nearly averaged 14 points, 7 rebounds, and 5 assists per game at Washington State.
