MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Minnesota Timberwolves star Anthony Edwards hurt his left ankle during the second quarter of Game 2 against Golden State on Thursday but returned to play in the second half.
The injury happened when Edwards went for a fast break layup. Warriors center Trayce Jackson-Davis blocked the shot and landed on Edwards’ foot as they both came down. Edwards grabbed his ankle and stayed on the floor under the basket. He had to be helped off and taken to the locker room. Draymond Green from the Warriors checked on him after the play.
This isn’t the first time Edwards has looked badly hurt but returned to finish a game. The Timberwolves even said he might not come back, but he surprised everyone by coming out to warm up before the second half. The crowd cheered loudly when he returned.
Edwards, 23, is a three-time All-Star and was the NBA’s fourth-highest scorer this season. He scored seven points in the first half, hitting 2 of 7 shots.
The Warriors were already missing Stephen Curry, who strained his left hamstring in Game 1.
