5. Steve Smith – Needs 191 runs to complete 10,000 test runs
If Steve Smith scores 191 runs in the fourth BGT 2024-25 Test at the MCG, he will become the fourth Australian batsman to reach 10,000 Test runs. Currently, he has 9,809 runs, with an average of 56.05.
Only three Australian players – Ricky Ponting (13,378), Allan Border (11,174), and Steve Waugh (10,927) – have more Test runs than Smith. So far, he has scored 33 centuries and 41 half-centuries in Test cricket.
4. Jasprit Bumrah – Needs 6 wickets to complete 200 test wickets
Jasprit Bumrah is currently leading the wicket charts in the ongoing BGT 2024-25, having taken 21 wickets so far. With 194 Test wickets to his name, the Indian fast bowler is close to making history.
Bumrah needs just six more wickets in Melbourne to reach 200 Test wickets. Recently, he broke Kapil Dev’s record to become the Indian bowler with the most Test wickets in Australia.

3. Nathan Lyon – Needs 5 wickets to go past Ravi Ashwin and become 7th highest test wicket-taker
Nathan Lyon, also known as “The GOAT,” is just five wickets away from passing Ravi Ashwin to become the seventh-highest wicket-taker in Test cricket.
Lyon has taken 533 wickets in 132 Test matches so far. Although he hasn’t had a big role in the series yet, Australia will be counting on the 37-year-old off-spinner to perform well in Melbourne.
2. Mohammed Siraj – Needs 7 wickets to complete 100 test wickets
Mohammed Siraj, the Indian fast bowler, has taken 93 wickets in 63 innings in Test cricket. He has supported Bumrah well in the series, taking 13 wickets in six innings and is currently fourth on the wicket list.
If Siraj takes seven wickets in the Melbourne Test, he will become the ninth Indian fast bowler to reach 100 wickets in Test cricket.
1. Shubman Gill – Needs 140 runs to complete 2000 test runs
Shubman Gill has struggled to turn his good starts into big scores in the current series. Right now, he is aiming to reach 2000 Test runs, needing just 140 more runs to achieve it.
He could reach this milestone in the next match at the MCG. So far, after 31 Test matches, his average stands at 35.76.
