To strengthen the bond of brotherhood with former students and their families, a two-day beach football and volleyball tournament was organized in Cox’s Bazar by the Mymensingh District School Ex-Students Sports Club.
Team Sahrawardy, captained by former national team striker Imtiaz Ahmed Naqib, emerged as the futsal champion, while Team Nazrul, captained by Nagorik TV’s Sakhawat Hossain, emerged as the volleyball champion.
Hundreds of former students of the school from 1968 to 2019 batches and their families participated in the tournament. Despite the inclement weather, the tournament was held on Friday and Saturday (July 25 and 26) at the Ocean Paradise and Divine Eco Resort Point beaches in Kalatali. Four teams, captained by former legendary footballers Alfaz Ahmed, Umtiaz Ahmed Naqib, Zulfikar Mahmud Mintu and Ataur Rahman Khan, participated in the game. The champions and each participating team were awarded.
Mymensingh District School Ex-Students Sports Club President Maruful Haque Ferdous said that in 2016, this club, formed by the former students of Mymensingh District School, had previously organized a tournament on the school premises with a record 45 batches. This is the first time that the organization has crossed the boundaries of Mymensingh and district schools and organized a beach football and volleyball tournament with more than 200 former students of about 27 batches from 1968 batch to 2019 batch and their family members. A special surprise in the tournament was the participation of the famous football stars of the Bangladesh national football team in the 90s, Alfaz Ahmed, Imtiaz Ahmed Naqib, Zulfikar Mahmud Mintu and Ataur Rahman Khan.

Arif Chowdhury Russell, one of the coordinators of the beach football tournament organizing committee and general secretary of Mymensingh District School Ex-Students Sports Club, said that the main objective of organizing the tournament on the beach was to strengthen the bond of brotherhood among the former students and share memories of school life. Along with reminiscing, it was an attempt to set an educational and ideal example for the next generation by exchanging emotions, love and establishing family relationships.
The organization’s media secretary, Sakhawat Hossain, said that the two-day event was attended by Abdus Salam, headmaster of Mymensingh Zilla School, Sheikh Amjad Ali, former additional DIG of police and 1978 batch student Mahfuzul Haque Siddique, renowned architect and 1979 batch student Masudur Rahman Khan, president of the club’s executive committee, renowned football coach and 1984 batch student Maruful Haque Ferdous, senior vice presidents Emdad Ullah Raju and Sharifuzzaman Sharif, general secretary and 1995 batch student Arif Chowdhury Russell, admin secretary and 1995 batch student Sharifuzzaman Sohel, organizing secretary and 2000 batch student Md. Habib Ullah Babu, Sports Secretary Arifur Rahman Robin, Joint Publication Secretary Sohag Ahmed and many others renowned in their respective fields participated.
This two-day event also included discussions, reminiscences and prize distribution. The prizes were distributed in the evening. The leaders of the organization expressed their gratitude to the Cox’s Bazar District Administration, Tourist Police, Beach Workers, District Sports Organization, Referee Association and other concerned parties for their full cooperation in the organization.
