Devin Booker, a four-time NBA All-Star, has agreed to a new two-year contract extension worth $145 million to stay with the Phoenix Suns until the end of the 2029-30 season, according to several reports. The deal was officially confirmed on July 10.
The new contract extension gives the Phoenix Suns some much-needed stability during a chaotic offseason. The team recently traded Kevin Durant to Houston, is reportedly thinking about buying out Bradley Beal, and has hired Jordan Ott, a former Cleveland Cavaliers assistant, as the new head coach.
If Devin Booker completes his full contract, he will have spent 15 seasons with the Suns, likely securing his place as the greatest player in the teamโs history.
Even though the Suns had a star-filled roster with Booker, Durant, and Beal, they still missed the playoffs. As a result, coach Mike Budenholzer was let go after just one season. The team also fired general manager James Jones and promoted Brian Gregory to take over.
Booker, who was picked 13th overall from Kentucky in the 2015 NBA Draft, now holds the franchise records for total points (16,452) and three-pointers made (1,424). He averages 24.4 points per game in his career, ranking third in Suns history behind only Durant and Charlie Scott.
In 2021, Booker led the Suns to their first NBA Finals appearance in almost 30 years. However, despite adding big names like Durant and Beal in 2023, Phoenix couldn’t get past the Western Conference semifinals. On July 6, Durant was traded to Houston.
Through all the ups and downs, Booker has remained a top performer. Last season, he averaged 25.6 points and 7.1 assists per game, marking his ninth straight year averaging at least 22 points.
