Suresh Raina: Former Indian cricketer Suresh Raina believes that Shubman Gill should be made the captain of the Indian T20 team after Suryakumar Yadav. Raina described young batsman Gill not only as the ideal candidate for captaincy but also termed him as the next superstar. Gill is currently the vice-captain of India’s ODI and T20 team. He has also captained India on the Zimbabwe tour. Gill is the captain of Gujarat Giants (GT) in the IPL.
Suresh Raina made a big statement about Shubman Gill
According to the Times of India, Suresh Raina said during an event that, “Shubman Gill is a superstar. Gill is the vice-captain. This means that someone is thinking about him. If Gill performs well in the IPL and wins the trophy, then he is the future (captain). He will be the next superstar.” During this, Raina also talked about Pant’s return to the Test team.
He said, “Pant is playing very well. He scored a half-century in the Duleep Trophy. He is doing good wicketkeeping. When you talk about a Test match, you play it session by session.”
Wicketkeeper batsman Pant played the last Test in December 2022. After that, Pant had to stay away from the game for a long time due to a terrible car accident. Pant made a comeback to international cricket from the T20 World Cup 2024 after the accident. At the same time, he made a comeback in the ODI team on the Sri Lanka tour. At the same time, Pant will now be seen playing Tests from Thursday. The first match of the two-match Test series between India and Bangladesh will be played from September 19 at MA Chidambaram Stadium Chennai.
During this, Raina also talked about the upcoming series between India and Bangladesh. Bangladesh has recently whitewashed Pakistan in the Test series. Bangladesh created history by defeating Pakistan 2-0 in its home. In such a situation, Raina has expressed hope that the India vs Bangladesh series will be exciting.
The former Indian cricketer said, “Bangladesh has performed well against Pakistan. They have good spinners, it will be interesting to see how the Indian team bats against them.”
